The IT Analyst Specialist 2 position provides solutions to a variety of moderately complex problems for new and existing computer systems. The IT Analyst Specialist 2 position will support senior team members in determining systems specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility and maintenance of system security. Support the design of subsystems and integration of total system. Participates in identifying, analyzing, and resolving program support deficiencies. Provides automation to manual or outdated procedures in order to bring about a higher degree of accuracy and efficiency. Develops and recommends corrective actions.

ULA Job Description:
Provide technical support to defined end user groups. Work with user groups to solve business problems with available technology including hardware, software, databases, and peripherals. Study and analyze system needs, system development, system process analysis, design and re-engineering. Troubleshoot, install, and update information technology resources. Implement new procedures and techniques.

External Additional Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field of study.
  • 2-6 years’ experience performing Unix Systems Administration duties.
  • Ability to install software packages and patches.
  • Experience with process automation using tools like Ansible, Puppet, etc.
  • Working technical knowledge of network, PC, and Windows platform operating systems.
  • Application support experience.
  • Working technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards, to include Active Directory.
  • Knowledge of local area network administration.
  • Experience with data management.
  • Experience documenting and maintaining configuration and process information.
  • Strong background and experience troubleshooting and debugging applications.
  • Experience presenting technical information to customers, clients and/or internal audiences.
  • An understanding of operating system concepts such as swapping and paging, inter-process communication, and devices and device drivers.
  • The ability to work under pressure in restoring high priority systems back to operations.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

External Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Experience with administering Unix based systems, Sun/Oracle and/or Red Hat.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to navigate, debug, and modify programs in an advanced programming language.
  • VMware and VSphere experience.
  • Experience with scripting, particularly PowerShell.
  • Solaris experience.
  • Perform OS tuning, understand networking, perform user management, and perform security hardening, review OS logs as needed and perform system backups.
  • Adept at reading, writing, and interpreting technical documentation and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to conduct research into hardware and software issues and products, as required.
  • Ability to present ideas and solutions in user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Skilled at working within a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Functional Job Description

Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is typical of most office environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noises.

Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate verbally and in writing and use interpersonal skills. The employee is regularly required to prioritize, multitask, analyze, interpret, coordinate, compile, evaluate, synthesize, compute, problem solve, concentrate, and think critically. The employee is occasionally required to copy, instruct, and negotiate.

Judgment and Decision-Making: Work is regularly assigned by self, supervisor, and departmental staff. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to exercise prudent judgment, decision making, and analytical skills to determine manner and operational steps necessary to properly handle inquiries and perform daily tasks within professional standards. Decision making is guided by ULA policies and procedures.
