Technical Project Manager

Job Description and Duties:

 

The Technical Project Manager is responsible for coordinating all aspects of engineering project execution, ensuring a smooth transition from the sales and development effort to the design phase, continuing to the installation and on-going service phases of the completed project within the established project management framework. This includes, but is not limited to, advising and assisting the Business Development Manager(s) and Project Engineers(s) in estimating and managing the project, conferring with engineering personnel on technical information, procuring and managing outside contractors, scheduling project phases and managing project deliverables. The Technical Project Manager manages all aspects of project budgets including project change orders, revenue projections, customer billings, and quarterly updates. This individual acts as the primary point of contact for all internal stakeholders, external stakeholders, subcontractors, and the end client to coordinate all aspects of project delivery.

 

Additionally, the Technical Project Manager is responsible for development of project objectives and the project management plan to achieve those objectives.  The Project Manager has a working knowledge of the technical and organizational factors that influence project success. The Project Manager must be an excellent communicator, train less experienced staff, proactive, a strong leader, able to drive customer value in the midst of continuous change, and  able to adapt to a dynamic and geographically dispersed engineering staff.

 

Typical Responsibilities

  • Project Staffing

  • Train Regional Engineers to manage projects

  • Conduct project audits to ensure Customer Project Process (CPP) compliance

  • Develop and improve established tools to improve efficiency

  • Staff Project Performance Reviews

  • Project Management Plans/Work Breakdown Structure

  • Work Task Assignments

  • Project Communications Plan

  • Project Schedule / Invoicing Schedule

  • Quality Reviews

  • Project Margin

  • Coordinate with Internal and External Stakeholders

  • Change Order Identification and seamless implementation

  • Project Risk Assessment/Gap Analysis

  • Manages Client Expectations, Direct Project Meetings

 


 



Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience as a Project Manager in an engineering or construction organization and/or 10 years of experience in a project related technical field

  • Direct PM experience leading projects; accountable for cost, schedule, quality

  • Proficient in MS Office applications, MS Project, MS Visio, MS Excel

     

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in an engineering discipline

  • Professional certification from an accredited certification program: Professional Engineer (PE) license, Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Project Management Professional (PMP), etc.

  • Construction Estimating experience

  • Training and supervision experience

  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects from development to project closure

  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets and project schedules, properly document projects, and work well with customers to achieve customer satisfaction on every job

  • Ability to analyze and interpret engineering documents, codes and standards, technical procedures

  • Maturity and professionalism to effectively handle frequent exposure to key decision-makers at the executive level

  • Financial acumen and understanding

  • Excellent customer service

  • Thorough understanding of contract procedures and negotiating tactics

  • Knowledge of contracting requirements, codes, standards, and construction industry

  • Self-motivated, quick and assertive

  • Able to simultaneously address project details without losing the big-picture

  • Anticipates and communicates project risks and implements mitigation strategies

  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects from development to project closure

  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets and project schedules, properly document projects, and work well with customers to achieve signature experience

ESTIMATED TRAVEL: 30-50% frequent travel
