METROPOLITAN STATE UNIVERSITY, a vibrant and growing public, urban university, occasionally needs community (adjunct) faculty to teach courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty or graduate students.  These positions are temporary and part-time. We are currently seeking a part-time community faculty instructor to teach CHEM 231 Organic Chemistry 1 and CHEM 213L Organic Chemistry 1 Lab, Spring 2017.
Faculty members are expected to demonstrate ability to teach organic chemistry courses effectively at the undergraduate level. Assigned courses will include Organic chemistry lecture and lab. Outstanding candidates will demonstrate a commitment to serving a culturally diverse student body through delivering a student-centered education in a liberal arts and sciences context and will possess the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals.
  • When:         9:00 a.m. – 12:20 p.m., Wednesday (Lecture) and Monday (Lab)
  • Duration:     January 11, 2017 – May 1, 2017
  • Locations:   St. Paul Campus, Science Education Center, 700 E Seventh St, St. Paul
  • Enrollment:  24 students (maximum)


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in chemistry or related field.
  • Demonstrated chemistry content competence.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach at the post-secondary level effectively.
  • Communication skills (written & verbal) to communicate with a variety of persons and groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an institution with a culturally, economically and linguistically diverse workforce.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Any other area of knowledge or expertise that could be an asset, but is not required for this position.
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Outstanding/Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) to communicate with a variety of persons and groups. (if included in required qualifications, the "excellent" or "outstanding" provides you another level of screening applicants)
  • Understanding of and willingness to learn policy, process and procedures for individual study abroad and academic internship opportunities.
The School/Academic Department: The College of Sciences houses the Mathematics, Information and Computer Sciences, and Natural Sciences Departments.  The growing interdisciplinary Natural Sciences Department, located in the brand new Science Education Center on the St. Paul campus, houses faculty teaching biology, chemistry, geology, and physics and currently offers degrees in biology, chemistry, and environmental science, with additional offerings in development.  Faculty have dedicated research space within the well-equipped building.  Instrumentation available includes GC/MS, separate GC, AA, FTIR, benchtop NMR, UV/VIS, HPLC, fluorimeter, chemical microwave, microtome, high-speed and ultra centrifuges, a variable temperature cold room, a dark room, CO2 cell culture incubator, and -80 C freezers.

Salary:  Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and is determined by the salary placement process as outlined in the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) Master Agreement
