Principal Financial Analyst - Strategic Finance

The primary purpose of this position is to support the Strategic Finance team in providing group and business unit management with insights that are key to driving intrinsic value over time. This includes visibility to (and analysis of) strategic financial metrics, including Free Cash Flow, Return on Invested Capital and Intrinsic Value. This role will focus on building and maintaining complex Excel models using data from Medtronic's financial planning systems.
Success will require a strong track record of working with both Excel and Hyperion planning and reporting tools. A solid understanding of Free Cash Flow, including key drivers, and finance theory related to ROIC and Valuation is also preferred. Additional success factors include the ability to work collaboratively within a small team and across the broader matrix and comfort in a fast-paced workplace.
Through these actions, this role will impact the company's strategic decisions and enable MITG to grow Intrinsic Value over time. This position will report to the MITG Strategic Finance Director.

A Day in the Life
1. Multi-year Free Cash Flow Forecasting, as part of the company's Strategic Planning process, lead processes to forecast cash flow by year on a long-term basis. Work collaboratively to incorporate drivers and assumptions from process owners across the broader Finance organization. Develop forecasts and cash flow targets at the operating unit level as needed. Drive linkage between cash flows at a project level in the Enrich System to Intrinsic Value Model and Agenda Management Schedules.
2. Partner with MITG Strategy and finance teams across all MITG businesses. Develop analytics to provide external stakeholders / analyst perspectives and influence MITG global strategies. Engage in special project work related to material group level portfolio management. Evaluate organic and inorganic business investment portfolio decisions. Develop decision support analytics to MITG Operating and Investment Committees to optimize resource allocation based on financial metrics and analysis. Partner with MITG Market & Competitive Intelligence team to analyze competitive earnings summaries and identify implications to the Medical Devices business. Partner with MITG Channel Management and Services teams to support strategy development.
3. Excel and Financial Planning Systems Power User, serve as the team's subject matter expert on Excel modeling and the utilization of Medtronic's Financial planning applications. Develop new and maintain/refine existing Excel models to support key processes related to Free Cash Flow forecasting, Intrinsic Value modeling, and presentations to leadership.
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
7 years of finance and accounting experience with Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business; or, 5 years of finance and accounting experience with a Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
Nice to Have
MBA, CPA or CFA
In-depth experience using Excel and PowerPoint to communicate strategic and financial plans and analysis
Hyperion HFM, Essbase, and Planning application experience.
High degree of expertise regarding Medtronic's GFS system, including experience conducting analysis across the business & entity structure
Experience and comfort working in a fast-paced environment
Strong financial modeling, quantitative analysis, and problem-solving skills; experience modeling the P&L, working capital, and cash flow.
Thorough understanding of the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principals
Results driven and highly motivated to deliver strong financial results
Strong written, verbal, and executive communication skills, including the ability to effectively influence people
Ability to work in a complex matrixed organization (business, geography, corporate)
