Job Description
“Position is contingent upon program contract award expected by Q2 2019”

At the dawn of a new space age, Lockheed Martin is a pioneer, partner, innovator and builder. Our amazing men and women are on a mission to make a difference in the world and every single day we use our unique skills and experiences to create, design and build solutions to some of the worlds’ hardest engineering problems. Do you want to be part of a culture that inspires employees to think creatively, exceed their own expectations and build incredible products? We provide the resources, inspiration and focus - if you have the passion and courage to dream big, then we want to build a better tomorrow with you.

Do you have a passion to get humans back to the moon and eventually to Mars? NASA has developed the “Exploration Campaign” that includes steps for the development of the Lunar Orbital Platform-Gateway. Jim Bridenstine, NASA Administrator, said: “The glory of the Gateway is that it’s not just for the moon. In future years, it is the best point from which to go deeper.” The first element of The Gateway is the Power Propulsion Element (PPE) and we need your expertise to deliver amazing new technologies to our customers. The PPE program is looking to build a core team of highly motivated engineers excited to be working in a fast pace, dynamic environment. This is a rare opportunity for you to help NASA meet the challenges of the first step in achieving that “long-term presence at the moon” and the stepping point for human missions to Mars.

The selected candidate will be responsible for mechanical design activities, including requirements allocation, concept evaluations, trade studies, layouts, preliminary and final solid modeling, in conjunction with the performance of all necessary analyses for these designs, including materials evaluations, stress, dynamics, thermal, aerodynamic, and flight mechanics assessments. Support will also be provided to producibility studies, cost trades, design for long term operations and maintenance, and all necessary development planning activities.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education with commensurate years of professional experience.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-functional product development team environment
Fundamental understanding of aerospace vehicle structures, mechanisms, thermal products, materials and processes
Experience with aerospace vehicle flight hardware design, analysis, manufacture, or test and integration
Demonstrated ability to drive hardware production activities through delivery to the program
Proficient with CAD modeling, drafting and release in Creo/EPDM (CREO2, 3 or 4)
Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 including GD&T
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and documentation, including SAP, Q-notes, test procedures, etc.
Proven excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
Schedule/planning experience.

Desired skills
Strong interpersonal skills. Cost account management (CAM) experience, ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment. Demonstrated ability as a team player to build consensus among peers and build effective relationships with team members. Experience with aerospace ground support equipment design. Knowledge of CIPS related to system analyses. Hardware experience, including design, analysis, assembly, Integration and Test. Experience using EPDM Windchill, SAP and design tools. Knowledgeable at a systems level in the areas of stress, propulsion, harness routing, strength of materials, subcontracts, electrical design/analysis, software, transportation, and launch operations. Effectively manage change. Experience working with procurement and outside suppliers. Schedule/planning experience.
