- Nature of Work
Performs administrative and technical work in support of the Police Department and Municipal Court, including administration of the information systems and related technologies, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of PC’s, mobile equipment and software.
- Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for support of police and court personnel in proper computer usage; installation of computer software; assisting users with the operation and maintenance of PC’s and printers.
A member of the City’s Technology Team functioning as a liaison between the Police Department, Court Division, software and hardware vendors and suppliers. Troubleshooting the various technology systems, including records management system, mobile data terminals, digital mug shot systems, FullCourt database, Dictaphone system, etc.
Maintain and service computer equipment associated with the Police Department and Court Division as well as assisting in citywide technology support.
Assist with minimal database management, ODBC connections, SQL queries, MSSQL databases.
Handle the coordination of all technology related to the police and court, functioning as the technical representative to other agencies and vendors.
Understand, interpret, and effectively explain hardware and software applications to users; Identify, analyze, and resolve computer, telephone hardware, software, and network related problems and implement solutions; Evaluate, test, develop, and configure new technology enhancements; Operate, maintain and repair standalone and networked computers, peripherals, telephones and a variety of software applications.
Ability to handle confidential information; exercise considerable initiative and sound judgement; work from broad direction with limited supervision; work well with culturally diverse people; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public; work well with varied and demanding people; communicate clearly, verbally and in writing; address multiple demands, or meet deadlines; organize tasks and working environment to maximize efficiency.
- Education and Experience
Four-year degree in Information Technology or related field and two year’s experience in computer systems administration are preferred.
Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of computer networks and telecommunications and database management.
Desired working knowledge of the following technologies; structured query language (SQL), PHP, MySQL, and Microsoft Office products.
Desired working knowledge of maintaining and supporting security systems, intrusion detection, antivirus and endpoint protection. In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP networking. Understanding of virtual server environments and PC cloning. Working knowledge of records management and retention practices.
Desired working knowledge of law enforcement computer related technology, systems and practices.

Must successfully pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: oral board, background check, local police records check including sex-offender list, reference checks, driving records check through DMV, and fingerprint check through CBI/FBI.
