This position provides support to Head Start, Early Head Start, Early Childhood, and School Age Services. This includes working primarily for the Head Start program during the school year, Early Head Start year round and supporting camps during the summer months. Duties include providing specialized training, program consultation, coordinating services with community partners, and insuring program compliance related to licensing standards. Within the Head Start program responsibilities include insuring compliance with the Health, Dental, Nutrition, and Safety guidelines. Participates in site team meetings and Management team meetings. Supervises the Part-Time Nutrition Coordinator.
- Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities
Insures compliance within the Head Start program performance standards in the area of Health, Nutrition, Dental, and Safety. Maintain program records and documents as needed for licensing and Head Start/Early Head Start program monitoring and compliance.
Works with the Early Childhood Education Supervisor and other members of the management team to coordinate program services and training of all staff, parents and volunteers as needed.
Assists classroom staff with curriculum resources in health, dental and nutrition.
Supports and coordinates services for the Early Head Start pre-natal mothers with the home –based visitors.
Actively participates as a member of the Family Services Programs and Head Start Management teams.
Supervise, hire, and evaluate the Part-time Nutrition Coordinator. Responsible for interviewing and selecting staff, oversight of training and staff development in cooperation with the Early Childhood Education Supervisor, performance reviews, and any corrective work plans.
Maintains program records and documents such as immunization records, physical examination records, dental screening and examination records, height, weight, HCT/Hbg results for all participants in the Head Start/Early Head Start program through Child Plus.
Tracks children's records and makes referrals to outside services as needed.
Makes referrals to the Child Find team for evaluation and staffing as needed.
Serves as the Nurse Consultant during the summer months.
Provides nurse consultation for the City's licensed childcare centers.
Provides training for staff, children, and parents in First Aid, CPR, Medication Administration, and standard precautions.
Participates on committees of interest and attends events sponsored by the City. Accepts special assignments on behalf of the Department and Division as appropriate.
Maintains ongoing communication both formal and informal with parents, staff and program participants.
Monitors program expenditures and works with other key personnel to ensure fiscal responsibility in accordance with Federal regulations and guidelines.
Communicates with Head Start Policy Council members as needed.
Schedules and oversees Health Advisory Committee meetings.
Works with other members of the Head Start Management Team to develop and implement annual program goals, and objectives, Policies and Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures and update the BAM.
Works with classroom and family support teams to ensure availability of services to children and families.
Participates in program self-assessment, monitoring and planning activities.
Must interact with others in a positive manner.
Regular and prompt attendance required.
Attends required trainings, in-services and meetings.
Ensures compliance with Federal program requirements and state licensing guidelines.
Supports City and Department functions.
Provides information and referrals for participants
Receives general supervision from the Head Start Administrator
Gives direct supervision to the Part-time Nutrition Coordinator.
- Essential Qualifications
Current RN license, Bachelor's degree required.
Three years professional experience working with children's programs or Head Start/Early Head Start is preferred.
Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) language skills preferred.
Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
Prefer prior supervisory experience.
Experience in coordination and collaboration desired.
Knowledge of State licensing requirements for childcare centers and Head Start/Early Head Start program performance standards is preferred.
Knowledge of State Health Department's immunization requirements for children.
Current Register Nurse license.
Valid driver's license and good driving record.
First Aid and CPR certification.
Must be certified to teach First Aid, CPR, and Medication Administration within 6 months of hire.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Lifting and Carrying:
Must be able to lift equipment used by children and people with disabilities.
Must be able to assist with the transfer of individual's into and out of a wheelchair.
Must be able to lift and transport manikins used for teaching First Aid and CPR
Pushing and Pulling:
Must be able to push or pull playground equipment.
Must push or pull boxes weighing up to 30 pounds into and out of storage.
Walks, bends, sits on floor, and stands in activities with young children on a weekly basis.
Transports self to multiple sites on a daily basis.
Must be able to communicate effectively with all children and families in the program.
Must be able to respond to the telephone and other equipment.
Must be able to hear children on a playground.
Employee uses vision to read handwriting and other written communication including memos and letters, physical examination records, dental records, and children's Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).
Must have basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication skills for calculating data and working on budget items.
Must be able to remember details of children's IEP's, details of a daily schedule, and a variety of community resource information.
Must be able to read and comprehend Head Start guidelines, licensing requirements related to health, letters, and memorandums.
Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with children, individuals with disabilities, and parents. Must use an interpreter to insure understanding of all parties when needed.
Must make decisions on a day-to-day basis regarding recommendations for services for those with disabilities and/or health related concerns.
Must be able to read, interpret, implement, federal regulations.
Must be able to make decisions with regards to health related crisis situations with children, families, or staff.
Majority of work is performed in an office environment with frequent travel to classrooms and other sites.
Must be able to work flexible hours and attend evening and weekend meetings as needed.
Work includes frequent interruptions from staff, children and families.
Interacts with children, parents, and staff on a daily basis.
Work may involve participation in children's activities, recreational activities, and special events.
Work entails computer input, answering and making phone calls.
