Overall Job Objective

General Purpose

Under the supervision of the Kitchen Supervisor or the Food & Beverage Manager, the Kitchen Assistant acts in a leading position with the kitchen staff and is responsible for opening/closing shifts as a line cook at the golf course restaurant.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Kitchen Assistant must prepare food for daily events.  Must be fully capable of working all stations and cooking all menu items.
  • Leadership and direction of the kitchen staff to maintain sanitation and cleanliness standards
  • Must bring a positive and energetic attitude to the workplace
  • Ensure that food production appearance and quality meet standards set forth by the Kitchen Supervisor
  • Coordinate with the FOH staff regarding daily specials and menu item availability
  • Assist the Kitchen Supervisor with daily specials
  • Train staff to meet health and safety standards in food production
  • Assist Kitchen Supervisor with kitchen staff scheduling
  • In the absence of the Kitchen Supervisor, act in his/her place to lead staff, prepare food orders, meet with vendors, and coordinate with staff to complete operational tasks
  • Lead kitchen staff on portion control and food cost
  • Keep traffic areas safe and clear of obstacles
  • Provide suggestions to Kitchen Supervisor for menu changes and upgrades
  • Review all processes and procedures and make suggestions for improvement
  • Must comply with all City and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Must be highly motivated and take direction well

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years previous cooking experience at a full service restaurant required
  • Must be 21 years old

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must be willing to work weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to lift heavy items without restriction

Equipment Used, Work Environment and Physical Activities

  • Office equipment:  Telephone
  • Computer equipment:  Personal Computer with Windows and MS Office
  • Other equipment:  Kitchen equipment, point of sale system
  • Language skills:  Ability to speak to people to convey or exchange information; record and deliver information in a teaching or instructional setting, ability to speak above noise with voice control and confidence; ability to read and prepare written documents with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech
  • Mathematical skills:  Must be able to complete basic math functions (+,-,*, /) with accuracy
  • Reasoning ability:  Ability to make appropriate decisions in a variety of restaurant kitchen related situations where only limited standardization exists; interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form
  • Physical activities:  Majority of shift is spent standing and/or walking
  • Lifting: Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Vision and hearing:  Must have high levels of eye/hand coordination, ability to coordinate hands and eyes in using various types of equipment
  • Exposure to environmental conditions:  Usual restaurant kitchen environment; some exposure to heat and cold
