This position participates in the daily activities of Camp Explorer.  Responsible for the safety of participants ages 6-14 and ensuring compliance with all State of Colorado licensing requirements. Shift hours vary during the operating hours of Camp which are Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.  Camp is located at Broomfield Heights Middle School (BHMS).

 Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties:

Maintains confidentiality of information consistent with applicable federal, state and city/county rules and regulations.

General Duties:

  • Assists Camp Assistant Directors in coordinating all aspects of summer camp program including but not limited to - participant registrations, weekly activities, field trips, enrichment classes/programs and special events.
  • Lead all programs by example - coordinate and instructing safe and age-appropriate camp activities.
  • Assist with daily communication with participant families regarding camper expectations and behaviors.
  • Assists in the planning and organizing of activities in the areas of crafts, sports, games, special events, and field trips for 6 - 14 year olds in enrichment programs for the Broomfield Recreation Services Division.  
  • Complies with licensing regulations under the direction of the Camp Directors and Camp Assistant Directors.
  • Ensures safety of self, participants and staff.
  • Responsible for the proper use and care of materials, equipment, site and facility used.
  • Complies with City Policies and Procedures and program standards.
  • Contributes to the preparation and review of Youth and Teen Camp programs, policies and procedures as necessary to maintain the effectiveness of the program.

 Minimum Qualifications:

Training – High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience – At least 520 hours of satisfactory and verifiable experience with school-age children.

OR

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the Necessary Applicant Traits and meet the State of Colorado Licensing requirements for a School Age Program Leader.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - Must be at least 18 years old.  Must possess a valid American Red Cross Standard First Aid Certification and CPR within 21 days of hire and maintain for continued employment.  Applicants must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: oral board, reference checks, background checks including local police check, child abuse and sex-offender registry check, and fingerprint checks through CBI/FBI. 


 Working Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.  The noise level in the environment is moderate to loud. Work is generally scheduled in advance with the program scheduled Monday through Friday and may include early morning hours, afternoon hours and evening hours.  Work in the Recreation Division may require indoor and outdoor activities. Due to the nature of recreation activities, the full range of physical movements may be required in this position. Such movements may include (but are not limited to) walking, running, jumping, lifting, climbing, and swimming.  As a result, the employee is exposed to a wide variety of potential safety hazards. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including summer sun and temperatures, which may exceed 100 degrees. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and taste or smell. Physical demands are described as medium (exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body).  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.
