The Senior Utility Maintenance Specialist performs skilled work in the maintenance, repair, installation, and control of complex facilities, equipment, and systems to support the operations of the Treatment division of the Water Department.
Aurora Water is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm drainage systems, treatment of drinking water and non-potable reclaimed wastewater for irrigation, billing and collection, public outreach and water conservation, acquisition and development of future water rights, major capital projects programs, and quality control for regulatory compliance and public health.
The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come-first serve basis; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.
- PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitors and inspects facilities, equipment, machinery, and systems to determine need for repair
- Analyzes malfunctions and makes repairs or adjustments to specialized equipment
- Coordinates, monitors, and/or performs installation of materials, fixtures, equipment, and systems
- Checks equipment for proper operation
- Schedules and performs preventative maintenance
- Designs and fabricates equipment parts as necessary
- Monitors and oversees confined space entry by crews
- May operate computerized control and monitoring systems
- Maintains records of operation, maintenance and repairs
- Prepares related reports
- Maintains inventory of parts and supplies
- Trains subordinate employees as appropriate
- Acts as lead worker; and performs additional duties as assigned
- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. The hiring department may include job-related experience, training, education or license and certification preferences at the time of recruitment. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least 5 years progressively responsible experience in assigned equipment maintenance function.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
- Knowledge of practices, procedures, equipment, and systems related to maintenance function and applicable safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; read and comply with blueprints, diagrams, schematics, manuals, and specifications
- Maintain records, logs, and reports
- Instruct and train other employees
- Perform physical activities common to maintenance work
- Work overtime, standby, and call back duty with a thirty minute response time
- Skill in the use of tools and equipment in assigned maintenance function.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES REQUIRED:
- Ability to obtain cross certification as required
- Class B Commercial Driver's License is required; a Colorado Class A is preferred
- WORKING CONDITIONS
- Moderate to heavy physical work depending upon the assigned function
- May lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Frequently performs activities requiring a full range of body movement including bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing
- Hand/eye and hand/foot coordination for operation of tools, equipment, and vehicles; vision to read manuals and record data and monitor and observe instruments and gauges
- Hearing/listening for troubleshooting and warning signals
- Speech communication to provide technical information and communicate with employees and citizens.
Work Environment: Works both indoors and outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions, noise, fumes, and chemicals; work may be performed in a confined space. Must be willing to perform overtime, standby, and/or call back duty.
Equipment Used: Operates tools, and mechanical and technological equipment and vehicles common to utility maintenance and construction.
