POSITION TYPE: Seasonal; 5/15/12 to 8/20/12; 40 hrs per week, 4-6 days per week

We are currently seeking the right individual ready to experience all facets of golf shop operations. To apply for this internship, you must be currently enrolled in a PGA accredited PGM program and have a valid driver‚s license and good driving record.

A City of Golden application must be submitted for internship consideration.

SUMMARY
This position will experience all facets of golf shop operations at a municipal facility during the internship. Under the direct supervision of the Head Golf Professional will assist in supporting the daily operation of the Pro Shop. May be responsible for teaching private, junior and group lessons, clinics and schools. May assist in golf event creation, setup and management. May be required to work early morning, evening, weekend and holiday shifts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for the daily collection of green fees, rental of carts and clubs, sale of range balls and of Pro Shop merchandise.

May assist in instruction of private and group lessons, junior programs and golf clinics.

May assist in all facets of managing golf events including initial booking, setup, scoring and awards presentation.

May be responsible for daily cash reports and bank deposits at the end of each shift. Performs daily collection, deposit, and accounting procedures for golf course fees and charges in accordance with City policies and procedures.

Works with fellow Pro Shop employees in a team approach to daily operations; creates and fosters a high degree of customer service and professionalism in the workplace.

Provides service and hospitality to golf course guests.

Runs errands as required.

Performs other duties and assignments as requested for the successful operation of the facility.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May serve in a lead capacity for non-exempt Pro Shop staff.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Skills / Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire. High school diploma or equivalent. Must be currently enrolled in a PGA accredited PGM program. Must be computer literate with working knowledge of MS Office. Must possess excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Must have ability to work in a team environment and be self-motivated.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must be able to read, comprehend and interpret City of Golden policies and procedures. Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers, citizens and others verbally and in writing. Ability to respond to customer concerns promptly and effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, the public, and other agencies.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's using units of American money. Ability to apply and calculate fractions and percentages to areas pertaining to the successful operation of the business. Ability to complete time sheets.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver‚s license with good driving record.
Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred.

MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Personal computer, cash drawer, phones, adding machine, photocopier, golf merchandise, and fax machine.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, exhibit manual dexterity and the ability to handle objects. Must be able to lift 100 pounds assisted and 50 pounds unassisted. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

The work environment is primarily in an indoor setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
