Jobing Description
MAJOR DUTIES:
The Nurse Practitioner will be assigned to the Compensation and Pension Unit. Provides primary care to adults to include assessment, diagnosis, treatment and outcome measures of healthcare problems, initiating and adjusting therapeutic regimens, performing histories and physicals, ordering diagnostic and therapeutic tests/studies, initiating consults and referrals, and prescribing medications/supplies in accordance with VA policy, VA formulary, State regulations and scope of practice. Serves as consultant to nursing as well as medical staff for patients with complex treatment or care needs. Works collaboratively with other interdisciplinary team members in providing quality care and patient education, participating in research activities, and assisting patients in acute and chronic rehabilitation techniques. Serves on medical center, VISN and/or national committees and assists in the development, evaluation and communication of policies and standards of advanced nursing practice.

Skills / Requirements
BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Citizen or national of the United States
  • English Language Proficiency: If you are appointed to a direct patient care position, you must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402 (d) and 7407 (d).
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia.
  • Listed on State Advanced Practice Registry with license to practice as an APN.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Association, SNCC, AANP or ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) is required.

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
  • Master’s degree in nursing or related field with BSN (or bachelor’s degree in a related field), or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field.
  • Applicant must be a graduate of a school of professional Adult, Family or Nurse Practitioner program approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies: American Nurses Association, National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

    DESIRABLE FACTORS: Advanced clinical practice experience, prescriptive authority from the state of Colorado, and disability exam experience are preferred.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Approximately 2-3 years of experience.
