Job: AVP/Internal Audit

United Western Bancorp, Inc. is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill an AVP/Internal Audit position at our headquarters in downtown Denver. The AVP/Internal Auditor reports to the SVP/Internal Audit Director. The position is responsible for overseeing and conducting audits of applicable departments, functions, and subsidiaries. The candidate must have excellent communication and analytical skills. Some travel (up to 30%) is required. Duties include but are not limited to:

Plan and supervise audits, determining objectives with respect to the validity of financial data, compliance with operational policies and procedures, and compliance with laws and regulations in order to uncover errors and irregularities

Evaluate and test internal controls

Oversee and perform the required audit testing, including compliance testing and substantive testing

Prepare value-adding audit reports

Communicate findings to management

Identify cost savings and process improvement opportunities

Supervise, train, and develop junior auditors as requested by the Director

Review the work papers of junior auditors as requested by the Director

Participate in the performance of the annual risk assessment

Liaise with the external audit firm

Support the regulatory examination process

Present to the Audit Committees, as requested by the Director

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required

Certification or Advanced Degree preferred

Position Knowledge/Experience:

Knowledge of accounting and auditing procedures

A minimum of four years Internal Audit experience required

Prior supervisory experience

Financial institution audit experience required

Commitment to the Internal Audit profession and professional standards of the Institute of Internal Auditors

Travel of up to 30% required for position

Skills and Abilities:

Strong analytical skills

Familiarity with automated audit tools

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ability to present difficult audit findings and gain consensus

Negotiation skills

Supervisory skills

Competency in three or more core audit and control areas to include: financial, operational, compliance, and IT.
