Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist
Shift: Full-time. Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts varying on days, evenings and nights with holiday and on-call coverage to be shared with other team members. Full-time benefits. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist performs and interprets complex serologic tests, provides blood products for patients with antibodies, answers technical questions, maintains inventories, and participates in continuing education and competency programs. Position Responsibilities: 1. Resolves antibody/compatibility problems. 1.1. Performs complex serologic procedures and analyzes the results in order to identify red blood cell antibody specificities in transfusion candidates/recipients. 1.2. Performs and interprets serologic tests on prenatal blood samples. 1.3. Responds to telephone calls, physicians, nurses, community members to provide appropriate information about blood group serology and resolving antibody problems. 1.4. Assists in researching new procedures and techniques. 2. Maintains inventories 2.1. Maintains the rare donor inventory, performs donor phenotyping to support this inventory, the sickle cell program and other special needs. 2.2. Evaluates ARDP requests and fills the orders if possible. 2.3. Prepares, orders, stocks and distributes routine and rare reagents to internal and external customers. 3. Performs and participates in all areas of Quality Control and Quality Assurance. 3.1. Staff training, proficiency and competency. 3.2. Equipment and reagents. 4. Complies with departmental, company and regulatory and accrediting agency requirements. 4.1. Enters data in the computer and generates appropriate reports. Maintains the confidentiality, security and integrity of the computer database and records. 4.2. Reviews department Operating Procedures (OP) revisions, reads all department OPs annually, writes/revises OPs. 4.3. Reviews all OSHA requirements and MSDS annually. 4.4. Assists with the orientation of new employees. Teaches theory and practical applications to students, residents, fellows and the community. 5. Performs duties in compliance with all applicable regulatory and accrediting agencies, including but not limited to Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) regulations and the current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), and ISO Standards. 6. Demonstrates integration of Bonfils quality policy by modeling behavior that supports achieving our mission and vision. Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a scientific field or equivalent and MT(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) or equivalent certification required (no exceptions) Experience: Previous Transfusion Service/Blood Center experience preferred, immunohematology reference lab experience and/or transfusion service experience strongly preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of immunohematology and general laboratory testing practices Manual dexterity Strong organizational skills Excellent oral and written communication skills Detail and accuracy Ability to lift maximum of 40 pounds Ability to handle multiple projects This position is located at our 717 Yosemite St, Denver, CO 80230 HQ.
