Purpose of Position

The Director of Operations serves as an operations-oriented deputy to the General Manager or as a location leader in the absence of the GM. Oversees all or a substantial part of day-to-day operations. May directly manage a significant portion of operations, which could include any combination of restaurants/bars. Develops and constantly refines business plan for assigned units. Reviews operating reports and coaches managers toward improvement. Selects and develops talent. Represents CI‚s interests to airport, governmental, or regulatory representatives as appropriate. Carries out location-wide responsibilities as delegated and significant special projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a deputy to the General Manager. Monitors operations to allow GM to place greater focus on strategic and broader business issues. Leads the location in the absence of the GM. Represents the GM and CI in meetings and on committees as assigned.
  • Provides overall guidance and coaching to operating managers and employees. Monitors business performance. Provides analysis and advice to unit managers to maintain and improve business results.
  • Monitors effectiveness of unit themes, menus, and pricing in generating business. Maintains awareness of airport volume and activities and incorporates into business results analysis and planning.
  • Assures compliance with brand and/or franchise requirements as applicable; coordinates promotional or cooperative advertising efforts.
  • Manages relationships with airport and local regulatory representative regarding units managed.
  • Identifies potential leaders and groom for future leadership positions Provide unit managers with an increased knowledge of the CI business model and with basic business concepts.
  • Communicates daily with employees to get feedback, communicate the CI vision, and identify potential problems.

    Decision-Making Authority:
  • Position makes all operating decisions with respect to assigned units. Decisions regarding recipes, operating processes, pricing, etc. are reviewed with the GM or with appropriate staff specialists.
  • Decisions involving new units or changes in concepts of existing units are reviewed with GM.

  • Bachelor‚s degree in hospitality management, business, or similar program; or graduation from a recognized culinary institute; or 5-8 years of related experience in restaurant management; or an equivalent of education and experience.
  • Must be able to obtain alcohol awareness and/or ServSafe Food Safety certification.
  • Knowledge of a food/beverage-based business model.
  • Ability to analyze P&L and sales reports and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to select, train, and motivate associates.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.

    Language Skills
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions; create correspondence and memos. Ability to effectively communicate information individually and in group situations to customers, co-workers and staff.

    Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

    Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to apply reasonable understanding in carrying out instructions in written, oral or diagram form.
