Blog Post: Using LinkedIn.com to Help with Education Search

For many people before they commit to attending a school and follow through on completing an education program, they want to learn as much as they can about the school. One of the best ways to go about doing this is by asking alumni of the school questions about their experience. An alum will have been through the school before, and based on their own experience there, that can help to determine if that school is the right fit for you. They will be able to tell you what they liked about it, and what they didn’t like about it. By gauging your interaction with one or many alumni of a school you will be able to determine if you really want to devote the time, energy and finances to pursuing this goal.

A great way to get in contact with alumni of a particular school is to utilize networking web-sites such as LinkedIn.com. You can do a search under “Groups” for the school you are interested in attending. From there you will see an abundance of alumni that are a part of that group. It’s best if you already know someone in that school group, but if you do not you can try to become acquainted with them and ask their thoughts about the school.

Another great way to seek out alumni is to attend events that the school is putting on. Often times there are alumni there who would be more than happy to talk to you about the school and their experience there as a student. Accounting and Business School of the Rockies is having an Open House on Friday, July 31 st from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. You will have a chance to talk to staff, teachers and alumni about the school.
