Blog Post: Disclosing a Disability
posted Tuesday, September 2, 2008 9:52 AM
Disclosure of a disability is a dilemma for job seekers as well as employers. From the job seeker perspective there are several good articles on this to review:
http://careerservices.rutgers.edu/disDIS.html http://www.jan.wvu.edu/corner/vol01iss13.htm http://www.ncwd-youth.info/resources_&_Publications/411.html http://www.jan.wvu.edu/job/MiltWright.htm The above links are also good for employers to review, and the U.S. Dept. of Labor, Office of Disability Employment Policy has some very good resources and information for employers. http://www.dol.gov/odep/categories/employer/ There is not one 'right' answer to this issue. Each situation is different, but the goal should be the same for employers and potential employees - disability shouldn't be a barrier to employment - look for the 'ability' and make determinations based on that.

About Me
Helping educate employers about hiring people with disabilities is what I do for a living. What I love is when the employer hires a person with a disability, and learns the added value and ability that person brings to their organization! Amazing!
