Looks like me, talks like me, acts like me......he/she must be BRILLIANT!!!
All too often as hiring managers this is our mantra ---- and therefore we hire those who remind us of ourselves and end up with not one mini-me, but a complete team of them! The most effective, most innovative teams are those made up of people who are DIFFERENT....not those who are the same. We need to build teams which represent different generations, genders, races and thinking attributes (i.e. MBTI, Emergenetics) and help team members understand the full value of these differences. We already have our ideas --- why do we need someone else with the same ideas? We need to surround ourselves with those who will add the “what about....” and “what if....” commentaries to develop the best possible solutions for our clients’ needs. The next time you think “wow, he/she reminds me of me”.......consider what other team they may be good for.....since you already have a you! All the best, Nora A Burns, SPHR
